Why Reclaim?
Every year, the world generates nearly 92 million tons of textile waste - a figure projected to soar to 134 million tons by 2030. A garbage truck’s worth of clothing is landfilled or burned every second. In the U.S. alone, 11.3 million tons of textiles end up in
landfills each year, even though most of it could be reused or recycled. The average American throws away 82 pounds of clothing annually, and globally only 12% of clothing materials are recycled—wasting an estimated $500 billion in value. Fast fashion fuels this crisis with cheap, short-lived garments made from synthetics that can take centuries to break down. But this means the opportunity for change is immense.
